On Land! Got off the boat and found myself exploring one of the tracks that I came up with in more detail and ended up laying this down. Obviously, this took much longer than and hour, but I was inspired and happy with what I was finding as I put it together. It may not be the final result, becuase I feel like there could be an opportunity to sing on this track, but not by me, except backing and harmony. Let’s see if this song comes back as a vocal or not someday.
I like this one. It just had that spaced out feel to it. This one is typical me. I can’t fight it, but at the piano, this is what I will sort of come up with 90% of the time. I am starting to feel the urge to do some vocal ones soon.
Part of this journey was going into hybernation for a few days, I guess. I didn’t plan on it, but the body and mind revolted. So today, I am back on the voyage. Was inspired by some 1980s throwback hits that I saw on MTV. Yes, in Japan they still mostly play music videos on MTV here. Nothing like Eurythmics followed by some David Bowie to get me going.
The twelth one: Feb 23, 2019
Mood: 1980s, happy being part of a good show last night
Today was thinking about a song we used to sing in high school called “Why do I listen to Anne-Marie?” And then collage remembering that I used to go to nightclubs and listen to beats like this one. This is what I came up with today. We are in the junk stage, so hang tight, something will happen to get back on the musical track.
The eleventh one: Feb 18, 2019
Mood: 6th stage of a hero’s journey… aka “Road of Trials”.
Ok, so I didn’t even know it but I almost accidentally ended up playing the same thing I did for Day 8. But it isn’t … exactly. AND I couldn’t figure it out, but I feel like I have hear this melody line before. It must had been stuck in my subconsciousness.
It is said in improv, “Use what you got”. This was what I “had” this morning. Brain was busy with what I needed to do today plus what I was concerned about then all of a sudden, Christmas popped into my mind. So I took that and went with it. A short version of Silent Night, mixed in with noise from Tully’s in Shinjuku and a thousand thoughts…. The busy mind is a noisy place. Used iPad.
Didn’t have much time today due to work today, so I went crazy with my iPad and did this one while riding crowded trains. Now, some tracks are just going to be like an improvised scene… some work and some just don’t. Not sure where this one landed. Different style all around and … well… I’m Ron Burgundy?
The fifth one: Feb 12, 2019
Time: 9:00-9:30am, 4:30-5:00pm
Mood: Funky, crushed between people on cell phones.
